Original Character, Canon, or Alternate Universe: Original character from The Secret World MMO canon.
Played By: Ksenia Solo
Concept: A previously average girl inducted into the secret society of (Knights) Templar, after having developed extraordinary superhuman abilities. She now fights to protect the world from the dark horrors the plague it.
Physical Description: While there are implications about the effect of her abilities on the aging process, Rory is actually the mid-twenties that she looks. She's 5'4" and built slim, but with lean, defined muscles in her arms and legs, betraying her strength. Her hair is black, which only makes her pale grey eyes all the more striking.
History: Rory lived an ordinary life, and a quiet one at that, up until about a year ago. Having left her fifth floor apartment window open one warm summer night, a bee came in. And she swallowed it. Generally one might suspect a swelling of the throat or tongue to accompany such a mishap, but Rory instead found herself endowed with powers. Nebulous, indistinct, but destructive. Her apartment was in shambles, and she found herself unwilling to venture beyond her own door to attempt to seek help.
Help came to her, in the form of the Knights Templar. Though they say they dropped the "Knights" bit sometime after the crusades, settling for just "the Templars" these days. Recognising Rory's untapped talent, they gave her an invitation to join them in London, where she was inducted into the secret world – a world that's always lain just under the surface. The world that people whisper about, but never really believe exists. Or never want to believe. Sure, there's magic and fairies, but there's also brimstone and demons as well.
Rory was given a crash course in how to cope with her newfound abilities, given a focus – both metaphorical and physical. Though the mental would all be up to her, and the Templars don't waste time throwing their recruits into the deep end. Those who cannot swim are of no use to them, and Rory discovered quickly she's a swimmer, fortunately. When you're wading through zombies up to your eyeballs, you have little choice but to swim or be eaten. The last bit's more literal than the swimming part.
The horrors Rory was exposed to left a mark on her psyche, but she doesn't give herself time to process. After all that field work, there's no time for a sabbatical. No matter where a person goes, once they've been inducted into the secret world, they can't go back to the one they lived in before. Rory's discovered this the only way there is: the hard way. And jumping from assignment to assignment is not actually a coping mechanism.
World: The Secret World.
Talents/Abilities: Rory is gifted with raw potential. It's part magic, and maybe part science, and completely inexplicable to her. Superhuman reflexes, the ability to create fire with her mind, or shoot lightning from her fingertips, freeze the ground she walks upon – even boil a person's blood in their veins. Her training has given her enough control over this power of hers to keep from having any "mishaps," but she still has a long ways to go. Being connected to Gaia also means she's been "spared" from death. In her world, when Rory is killed, her soul is wrenched back to the nearest hub (for lack of a better term – essentially a well of Gaia's power) and she need only return to the place where she's fallen to resurrect and start anew. The veil between the realm of the living and dead is a terrifying thing, full of its own shades of horror, and thus death is avoided at all costs by anyone with any modicum of sanity. It's not exactly a simple bounce-back, anyway. – Presumably, Rory will be cut off from these wells, and thus from her essential immortality. I'll of course leave this up to mod discretion if the opportunity for horror here is something deemed worth pursuing. I'm good either way.
Elementalism: 7. Rory can't make fire rain from the sky, but she can turn rain into pelting shards of ice.
Blood Magic: 8. If a creature has blood of any sort running through its veins, Rory can manipulate it. The more devastating the effects of her magic, require a sacrifice of her own blood.
Blades: 6. Bladed weapons are an effective method of drawing blood. Both her foes and her own.
Firearms: 4. But in a pinch, a pistol, shotgun, or assault rifle will do.
Fists: 3. If she's desperate, Rory can resort to her fists and nails, but she's chaotic about it at best and clumsy at worst.
Lying: 8. Being part of a clandestine society generally means lying to keep the secrets. Especially when horrors have leaked into the world and the public at large needs sanity kept intact.
Politics: 6. The Templars are big into politicking, having mostly integrated with the government in England. Rory's picked up some pointers along the way.
Telepathy: 10. Rory isn't capable of broadcasting her thoughts, but her mind is wide open to psychic communication with others.
Clairvoyance/Vision: 10. Like telepathy, Rory doesn't have any control over this ability, but she is prone to visions that either give her some glimpse of events of the past, glimmers of the future, or a jumbled mess of symbolism meant to guide her down her path. The latter generally only makes sense to her in hindsight. At any rate, she's a good candidate to be a conduit for someone else's psychic energies.
Personality: Rory is expressive and outgoing. She enjoys making friends, though she doesn't actually talk about herself much. It's sort of a by-product of being part of a secret society and having abilities that would frighten some and fascinate others in ways that generally wind up unhealthy, no matter which way you look at it. Rory regrets having to keep friends at arm's length, but she believes it's for everyone's own good, even if it may make both parties sad. Responsibility is a burden Rory doesn't necessarily carry gladly, but that's what comes part and parcel with great power, right?
Sexuality: Rory has had to update the definition of her sexuality in recent months. Pansexuality seems to be a catch-all that works well to encompass the supernatural beings she's found herself attracted to that don't necessarily fall into the traditional gender binaries. She's drawn to those she feels she can be herself around, often mistaken that comfort for proper attraction. In most cases, it fades early and she moves on. While she may feel whatever confusing feelings she feels, she rarely acts on them, somewhat self-aware of the way these things work out for her, but also aware of the fact that her lifestyle doesn't lend itself well to anything long-term. Flings are an indulgence she feels no shame over, however. Everybody needs to scratch an itch once in a while.
Reason for playing: This seems the perfect venue for an OC, and particularly this OC of mine. I try not to put my cart before my horse, so I have no immediate plans for Rory's future in Junction, but this will change and develop once the game's open and I've gotten a feel for things. If I come up with anything, I will most certainly approach staff to discuss my thoughts and how they may fit in to the plot. As for everything else, I'm super flexible. I enjoy playing a supporting character in other's plots and would be more than happy to fill in wherever someone may need a facilitator. Just ask, and I'm likely to jump in enthusiastically.
Object: I love surprises. I'm partial to things that are innocuous, either for the hilarity of "TASTE THE WRATH OF MY – butter knife???" or the shock that comes later when that thing is not quite so innocuous after all.
WRITING SAMPLES
Narrative:
It's with a fearsome cry and a tug of her clawed grip through the air that Rory's foe falls to the ground. She immediately snaps her head to one side, then the other, finally turning around in a full circle to assess the situation and determine that there aren't more zombies waiting to descend upon her. More than a dozen lay strewn about the dirt in a circle around her, motionless finally. It feels odd to ascribe the term dead to something decidedly undead, but that's what they seem to be now. The men and women once buried can again find peace.
Bloody fingers rake through strewn locks of dark hair, and she finds a wound on her neck. Fortunately the undead don't create others of their ilk by biting. At least, not if they don't manage to kill you. If you fall – if a normal human falls – you'll surely rise again before your body's gone cold. But if one manages to survive, well, then that's it. You've survived and should run your ass back to the safety of the nearest fortified outpost. Rory doesn't do that, instead she pulls out what amounts to a suped-up smartphone and taps an icon on the screen, waiting for someone on the other end to acknowledge her call.
There isn't a face that pops up on the screen, but rather an image of the red and white cross synonymous with the Templars. "The sword isn't here," she informs her superiors without waiting for an vocal address. "The filth definitely is. I'm still tracking Beaumont. I'll report in again if anything turns up. Faust out."
The mobile deposited in her pocket once more, the young agent takes one more grim look at the situation around her. Drawing a circle through the air causes the bodies to ignite one by one until they've become something of a nice little bonfire. She steps over the conjured flames and burning flesh, and keeps moving forward through the trees. She doesn't look back.
Roleplay:
I have a Dear Mun exchange.
